School Council and Buddy system

School Council
At Stoke Mandeville, we pride ourselves on the caring nature of the pupils and staff. We encourage all pupils to become responsible and caring members of the school and the wider community.

The School Council won the County Swan Award in 2007 for its work within the school. We are very proud of their achievements. The School Council is made up of representatives from every class and meets regularly with Mrs Roberts. They have an import role in the school are consulted by the School Leadership Team on policy issues and developments within the school.

They are working this term on deciding rules for the new Friendship Garden.

The school operates a Buddy System where Reception children are paired up with a Year 6 pupil on their first day. The Year 6 buddy stays with them at break and lunch times, eating with them and playing with them. As the Reception children become more confident, the Year 6 Buddy has a lower profile. The Year 6 pupils take this role very seriously and it has been beneficial to both groups of children. It fosters a sense of belonging and community. We have found this to be an excellent way of settling Reception children in to the school and mirror this with all our new pupils.

The current School Council members are

Year 6: Jessica Godfrey and George Ramsey

Year 5: Robbie Dawson and Nathan Roff

Year 4: Alfie Gardner and Mollie Stroy

Year 3: Lewis James and Emily Moss

Year 2: Amelie Avery-Hughes and Oliver Clegg
