Year 3 – Spring Term 2012
CURRICULUM INFORMATION
Spring Term 2012
Year 3 – Miss Robinson
Happy New Year!
We are very much looking forward to an exciting and successful new term.
During the Spring Term (as in the Autumn Term), most subjects will be taught through the creative curriculum.
Creative Curriculum: Our spring term topic is ‘Famous Modern Authors’. Particular focus will be given to Roald Dahl and Oscar Wilde.
We will be working with Year 4 to plan exciting activities based around this theme. If you have any information which you can share with us we would love to know. Maybe you could take a trip to the library or look through books at home to find some information to help you learn more about Roald Dahl and Oscar Wilde
We will be using a variety of ICT to teach, present work and carry out research.
Some subjects will be taught discretely whilst others will link into the Creative theme for the term.
On a Wednesday afternoon, the children will be taught French and RE by Mrs Granville and Mrs Johnson.
Reading
It is our aim that children will be listened to at least once a week in school unless specific reading difficulties have been identified or except during times when the school timetable is different.Readingbooks may be changed when they are completed at home. Your child now knows to bring their reading record and reading book into school every day. They should also take them home at the end of every day. Please comment on your child’s reading in their reading record, as this will help them to support them and help them to choose the correct books. It is vital that your child reads aloud regularly at home. If your child has finished, then they can look at other books with you. Looking at pictures and talking is valuable support. Please make sure your child has their library books with them on a Wednesday.
Mathematics
Topics we will be covering include written addition and subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers; multiplication and division; time; weighing; money; problem solving; data handling. A written assessment will take place towards the end of the term.
English
The children will be covering a range of writing genre this term linked to the creative curriculum. These include: poetry; letter writing; narrative writing; instructions; and reports. In addition they will be continuing to develop their VCOP skills – Vocabulary; Connectives; Openers; Punctuation.
Homework
Homework will be given each week. They have English, Maths and Spellings in addition to other weekly homework including times tables and creative curriculum tasks. Please support by checking after your child has finished the work that it is of a suitable standard. Your child should hand their homework in on the day specified by the teacher.
Equipment
Your child will need writing pencils; colouring pencils; a 30cm ruler; sharpener; gluestick; dry wipe whiteboard pen; rubber.
Please ensure that PE kit is brought into school on Monday and left until Friday.
Indoor PE kit: white (or House Colour) T-shirt; dark shorts.
Outdoor PE Kit: as above plus track suit bottoms and top when cold; trainers.
A bag to take dirty trainers home would be useful.
PLEASE make sure that all clothing is named.
Drinks and snacks
Please ensure your child has a bottle of water to drink during school hours. Fruit or vegetable snacks may be eaten at break time, not cereal bars.
Years 3 and 4 Spring Production
Please note that Years 3 and 4 will be putting on an Easter performance of “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde at the end of the Spring Term.
