Year 2 – Summer Term 2012
CURRICULUM INFORMATION
Summer Term
Year 2 – Mr Butler
Creative Curriculum:
This term our Creative Curriculum topic is ‘Olympics’. We will be doing lots of exciting activities to help us better understand a range of areas in this subject, including where the Olympics take place, past and present games and how we use our bodies in sport.
Reading:
It is our aim that children will be listened to once a week in school unless specific reading difficulties have been identified, and then we will aim to hear them more than once. Reading books may be changed when they are completed at home. Please ensure your child has their book with them in school at all times.
Over the course of this term and next, children who are ready will be moved onto the free reading scheme. Children are encouraged to read a selection of books at home, not just the school scheme books.
Mathematics and English:
We will be following the National Strategies alongside the creative topics for both English and Mathematics. At home, please practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Assessment:
Year 2 Maths and English SATs are being carried out until mid June.
Homework:
Mathematics and Phonics homework will be sent home each week, and must be completed by the due date. There may be some weeks where homework is not needed, e.g. around the time of school productions. Homework may be set for other subjects, such as Creative Curriculum, but this will not be sent home weekly.
It is important that children practise their Phonics spellings; they will be tested on a Thursday.
Equipment:
Please ensure your child brings their PE kit every Monday and takes it home again on Wednesday. PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS ARE CLEARLY NAMED.
Indoor PE Kit: White T-shirt or new House coloured T-shirt, dark shorts.
Outdoor PE Kit: As above with tracksuit bottoms and a top/ jumper when it’s cold, trainers.
If a child cannot take part in PE without wearing footwear, a note will be required.
Drinks and snacks:
Please ensure your child has a named water bottle to drink while in class. Fruit or vegetable snacks may be eaten at break time, not cereal bars.
If you have any worries or concerns, no matter how small, please feel free to make an appointment to speak to me, my door is always open!
