How you can help at home

Continue to encourage your child to do things independently at home e.g dressing, tidying. Continue to talk to your child about what they have been doing at school.

Phonics

We will be continuing with our phonics scheme. The children are now be in groups for this, working at their own ability. We will be sending home new sounds, activities, words and games for you and your child to do together. This will help to reinforce what they will have been learning in their groups at school.

Reading

At home continue to share the library books your child has chosen and encourage them to read their reading scheme book with you.  We are continually monitoring the progress each child makes with their reading and they will be moved onto the next level accordingly. Our phonics activities also help us to assess the children’s progress in this area.

In the next few weeks we will be sending home words for your child to learn. The words and activities that are sent home will depend on your child’s phonics group. A more detailed letter will accompany these.

Please do not hesitate to come and see me if you have any concerns or queries about your child’s reading book or progress they are making.

Maths

In reception we have been focusing on counting, counting objects and recognising numbers. Please continue to take any opportunity to encourage your child to do this. Number games, singing songs and counting everyday items are great way to do this.

PE/ Games

In addition to our fine and gross motor activities within our indoor and outdoor learning areas, we will have specific PE times.

Monday: Outdoor PE. This may change to another day or be a group activity so please leave your child’s PE kit at school all week, when possible.

Wednesday: Gymnastics

Please ensure your child has a named PE kit. During the colder months your child should also have a sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms.

Other Information

Please ensure your child brings a coat to school every day, it is important for your child to be able to play outside. A pair of wellies would also be ideal for the cold and winter months.

Please provide your child with a named water bottle every day, even if they have milk.

The children need to bring their book bag, with their reading book and reading record every day. Please continue to write in the book every time you share the book with them.

Please keep the donations of kitchen rolls, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles,  fabric, wool and dressing up clothes coming in. These are very useful for all our creative activities! Thank you very much for all you have brought in already.

Time table changes

‘Show and tell’ and our library visit will now be on a Wednesday.

Thank you or all your continuing support. Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
